The New Normal?

The New York Times recently published an article about divorced parents who, for the sake of their children, chose to remain in close physical proximity after their separation.  In one instance, the parents remained in their same Brooklyn brownstone – mom living in the top unit, dad in the bottom, and a renter in the middle.

According to the article, the divorce rate in New York City is lower than the national average and it is not uncommon for a couple to remain within blocks of each other when they part ways.  While the hustle and bustle (and cost!) of this type of big city life is quite different than that here in West Michigan, the overarching theme of the article remains – divorce is hard, but it doesn’t have to destroy every bond you made during your marriage.
