We All Fall Down

We All Fall Down

Yesterday is not ours to recover, but tomorrow is ours to win or lose.
— Lyndon B. Johnson

You know those moments in life where everything seems to be going right?  Whether it creeps up slowly over time or hits you all at once, nothing feels as good as those days when you wake up with a feeling of contentment and security about your place in this world.  About a month ago, that was me.  Piece by piece, bit by bit, many things in my life were going really well. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, something in my life exploded…in a good way.  What felt like all at once, something that I have been working on for a very long time, something that I have been struggling to succeed in, looked like it was within reach.  I was riding high…real high.  To be honest, I woke up each day feeling like I was killing the game.

But the universe…the universe sometimes has other plans.

Within 24 hours I saw an opportunity that I was really excited about slip through my fingers and I couldn’t do anything about it.  A few days after that something else happened.  After that, something else.  Suddenly, my world shifted and all those little voices we try to pretend don’t exist started whispering in my ear.

I started questioning myself – was I doing enough?

I started wondering to myself – was I giving enough?

I started doubting myself – could I BE enough?

The thing is, the defining moments in our lives are not when we triumph.  We define ourselves when we fall.  We define ourselves when we fail.  We define ourselves when we face devastation and we rise above it the best way that we know how.  When we put our nose to the grindstone and we push through.  When we stand up instead of lay down.  We define ourselves when we lean in and fight for another day of success, another moment of happiness, another dream we want to achieve. We all have our insecurities and our doubts – those elusive pieces to our puzzle that we just can’t seem to find or fit.  Our flaws are what make us who we are, our setbacks creating avenues for opportunities we don’t even know exist yet.

So no matter what you are going through, dream.  Dream big.  Dream HUGE.  Grow.  Create.  Try. Fail.  Try again.  Open your heart to new possibilities. Open your mind to new ideas.  Be gentle on yourself and strong in the face of your adversity.  Walk forward, shoulders back, head up and keep your eyes open for the next best thing in your life.  Because I promise you, it’s coming.  You just have to be patient.  You just have to believe in it.
